For many people, “thanks-giving” is a tradition that happens around the dinner table once a year. But research suggests that leaders should express gratitude in the workplace year-round — here’s how.
Resilience is our ability to respond adaptively to challenges. It’s what helps us get back up again, stronger, after meeting life’s hurdles, disappointments, and failures. It’s more than simply bouncing back from adversity or not breaking in the face of hardship.
Authenticity is the healthy alignment between internal values and beliefs and external behavior. Authenticity comes from finding your style and your way of leading — and making life decisions that reflect your ethics, values, and your personality.
"How do we make sure that organizations change in a way that is more than just a new face around the table?" And, "Does it really matter how different the people in charge are if an organization's strategy already takes race into account?"
I believe the answer is to do small tasks every day, developing a habit of consistency. This habit helps you maintain discipline and focus, which are essential for achieving your goals. Small tasks may seem insignificant but are the building blocks for bigger tasks.
Struggling as a Manager? It’s tough to make the transition from an individual contributor who does the work well, to a leader who must continue to do the work plus lead others. Many first-time managers feel that no one understands what they’re going through and find themselves struggling as a manager. The numbers prove it: 20% of first-time managers are doing a poor job, according to their subordinates. 26% of first-time managers feel they weren’t ready to lead others to begin with. Almost 60% say they never received any training when they transitioned into their first leadership role. No wonder 50% of managers in organizations are rated as ineffective. To better understand the most common challenges of new managers and to help them overcome the difficulties of their new roles, we conducted a study to analyze the challenges of nearly 300 emerging leaders who took our training program for first-level managers, Maximizing Your Leadership Potential.
These are the fundamental 4 leadership skills needed by leaders at every organization, regardless of role, industry, or location: self-awareness, communication, influence, and learning agility. Leaders at different levels of an organization face different challenges. But whether you’re an individual contributor, a firstline manager, a mid-level leader, a senior executive, or somewhere in between, there are 4 core leadership skills you need to focus on as you grow in your career. These are the timeless, fundamental skills that are needed by leaders throughout every organization — and they’re important regardless of role, industry, or location. But the way you address each leadership skill, and what you need to learn or emphasize around it, will shift and change as you move into higher levels in the organizational hierarchy and encounter new challenges. So what exactly are these foundational leadership skills? While there may not be a single definitive list of core leadership skills, at CCL, we call the leadership skills needed in every role and career the “Fundamental 4.”
At some point or another, every entrepreneur has wondered if they are on the right track and if the business they are pouring their time, money, and energy into is actually going to work out how they hope. But the reality is that these fears and doubts are just part of starting your own business. As an entrepreneur, there will be times when you're not sure that things will work out. And it is in these moments that you need to be able to take a step back and look at the situation, and your thoughts, in a different way.
Fear gets to the best of us, whether it is fear of failure, fear of success or even fear of fear. All of us have experienced fear at some point in our lives and it can be a real stumbling block that holds us back from being truly successful.
Keith C. Wolaridge writes about the love of his father, a faithful man committed to his family, especially during the toughest of times. Keith witnessed his father’s life-long grasp of "goodness" in the face of a cold, privileged world never meant for him; and yet, holding true to the set of righteous principles, his father's pillars above the rest!
It’s these very pillars that shaped Keith into the man, the father, the business owner he is today. In Five Pillars, Keith offers a robust foundation of wholeness to a crumbling society. He writes urgently, from the heart, with a fluid, intellectual tempo that lifts us and causes introspection, with a single design to perhaps mend the collective soul of our nation. He sat silently, watching the chaos unfold, waiting for that small, spark of hope. And now, it’s his turn to speak
